This perennial favorite prereading game has gotten a makeover for its 50th anniversary. The basics are the same: players still move ahead according to the color of the card they draw; they still try to avoid getting stuck in the Molasses Swamp; and they still thrill when they draw the magical Queen Frostine card. It's the game's graphics that have been updated. A three-dimensional version of the Candy Castle beckons at the end of the trail; the playing pieces look remarkably like gingerbread-folk come to life; and even the color blocks on the cards have a tastefully decorative frame around them. The whole thing is packed in a collector's tin for safekeeping. --Lisa Whipple
